PRESENTATION OF $20,000 TO THE PROSTATE CANCER FOUNDATION OF AUSTRALIA

On Tuesday 24th November 2009 Vietnam Veterans Motorcycle Club - Federal Chapter had the pleasure of handing over a cheque for $20,000 to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.

The very appropriate setting of the Australian War Memorial in front of the Vietnam War vintage Centurion tank was chosen for the presentation of proceeds of the 2009 Victory over Prostate Cancer dice run, held on the 10th October.  Prostate Cancer representatives, Wendy the ever smiling NSW State Manager and Tony were on hand to accept the cheque which will assist in the ongoing fight against this insidious and far too common cancer.  The presentation also served as a timely reminder of the impact of prostate cancer on the Australian community in particular to the over 50's age bracket most of our VVMC members fall into. Wendy assured us that the testing process is painless and quick. She also reminded us that early detection can be critical to the successful treatment of this disease.

Club president "Dimples" and dice run cornerstone organiser "U Turn", supported by several members of the chapter with their always immaculate bikes gathered for this important event.  This donation is one of many that the chapter presents to worthy charities throughout the year in support of both the veteran and general communities. We cannot make these donations without the ongoing support of other riders on our events where we welcome all levels of riders and all types of registered bikes.

Photos of the presentation will soon appear on our website.

Keep also your eye on the website for forthcoming events where your support will directly help others in need. Planned future events include the 2010 Tour of Duty poker run and the Honda VT1300cx motorcycle raffle.

Victory over Prostate Cancer Dice Run
Murrumbatemen, Saturday 10 October 2009.

After a month of unsettled weather a welcome sun greeted an enthusiastic group of over 200 motorcylists showing support for the Victory over Prostate Cancer dice run, hosted by the Federal chapter of the Vietnam Veterans Motorycle Club.   Bikes and riders of every size, shape and hue.  Young riders, old riders, pretty riders, damm ugly riders...but riders all there for the common cause of helping to raise much needed funds for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.  Also on the ride was the famous Tex, Bundy and Jen.  Bundy is the wonder dog who rides on the tank of Tex's bike.  They attend many charity events each year and their participation was most welcome.  The run was further assisted by many sponsors (see our links page) including Victory Motorycles in Melbourne who bought four new bike models up from Melbourne for the run and of equal importance provided the major raffle prize of a trip for two to Melbourne.
So rolling out of town with to aural music of massed rumbling bike exhausts the run headed past Yass, through Binalong, Harden, Wombat (for lunch at the wonderful Wombat hotel), Young, Koorawatha, Cowra to Boorowa, rolling dice at each stop. Raffling bags of motorbike goodies, enjoying a good ride, enjoying motorcycling in a safe and sensible manner.  An enjoyable night of more raffles, a few quenching ales at Chris's Boorowa "top pub". A bloody good musician, lots of happy snaps taken by Live to Ride's sociable Loaf.  Wendy, the NSW State Manager of the Prostate Foundation also attended with her bright pink lipstick.  Up to breaky provided by the Boorowa Junior Rugby League Club.
A great run that was a success on every level. Congrats to all who won the great prizes but the biggest winners for the event were the Prostate Cancer Foundation, motorcycling and motorcylists on the whole.  A huge thanks to all who sponsored, donated, assisted and participated in the run.  See you all at the next event, the Tour of Duty run in March 2010. Watch this site for details.
